Jonathan Izzard
Jonathan (he/they) is an illustrator and fine artist based in Chepachet, Rhode Island. His work explores the intersections of queerness, spirituality, mythology, fantasy, and self-discovery —merging contemporary illustration with fine art sensibilities. Through a blend of narrative imagery and symbolic design, Jonathan creates various illustrative works that reflect both the personal and the universal. His practice exists where myth and modernity meet, weaving ancestral echoes with intuitive storytelling. Whether drawing from Celtic or Mediterranean roots or channeling otherworldly figures of his own creation, Jonathan’s art offers a space for reflection, curiosity, and connection—a reminder that the mystical still lives within us and around us.
“We live in a world shaped by patriarchal systems and capitalist ideals, a world that often strips softness and spirit from us in favor of conformity to the status quo. Within this landscape, monotheism and its social conditioning have long dictated what is deemed righteous or acceptable. Yet many of the traditions embedded within Christian culture, including its holidays, symbols, and seasonal rituals, draw heavily from pre-Christian pagan roots, particularly from Celtic spiritual practices, a lineage to which I am personally connected.
My work within Femmesubstantiation engages with this inheritance through reclamation. Paganism has frequently been misrepresented as barbaric, demonic, or primitive, despite being one of the foundational sources from which Western spiritual traditions evolved. Through illustration and narrative imagery, I aim to re-occupy that space, one unjustly overwritten, and to honor the divine feminine archetypes that have persisted beneath centuries of suppression.
Historically, the art world’s canon was built through religious commissions serving the elite, often reinforcing Christian dominance in both imagery and ideology. Today, artists are rewriting that narrative. My work contributes to this transformation by asserting that the sacred can exist outside institutional religion, and that spirituality, myth, and feminine divinity are living forces accessible to all. In doing so, it reflects the very heart of Femmesubstantiation: the radical alchemy of turning silence into presence, objectification into divinity, and shame into sanctity.”

Abaigeal Wright
Abby is a multidisciplinary artist based in Cranston, RI. She explores a range of mediums, focusing on photography and mixed media. She has her BFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Considering art a vital part of her existence, she uses the process of art making as a coping mechanism, and an exploration of identity.
“I believe that most people are artists and don’t realize it. To me, the process of art-making is about taking in information, emotions, experiences; processing them, and putting something physical back into the world.
The concept of Femmesubstantiation is a process of reclamation. Most of my work is centered around navigating the world as a female identifying person, and what that means. The pieces that are featured in Femmesubstantiation are all focused around the topic of abortion access. Working for TWP and being a volunteer for Rhode Island Abortion Fund, the fight for bodily autonomy for everyone is something that is always present in my life. Our voices and community are powerful. Now more than ever, as people are stripped of their humanity everyday, we have to make these conversations a priority.”
