Our Story
In 2020, some board members from The Womxn* Project (TWP) branched off and formed The Womxn Project Education Fund, the 501(c)3 sibling organization to the original nonprofit.

With the artist background of the creators who started TWP, it allowed for a perfect blend of art and activism, i.e. "artivism" to advance issues that brought more people into the process of speaking out.
TWPEF focuses on creative and educational materials that support Rhode Islanders while centering on human rights topics around equal and accessible healthcare issues.
The Womxn Project Education Fund has received many grants that help fund efforts to a create accessible and innovative projects which also ask hard questions and speak of stigmatized realities.
The example highlights how the TWPEF brought attention to the history of enslaved people at Linden Place Mansion, once home to the DeWolf family, the largest enslavers in the region. Prior to this, the museum, which also functions as a wedding venue, had not acknowledged or named the individuals forced through its doors. However, following the projection of this history onto the building by TWPEF, the museum underwent a reckoning and recommitted to telling a more inclusive and accurate story, incorporating the experiences of the enslaved people connected to the site.
*Womxn includes cis women, trans people, non-binary and gender-fluid people. We appreciate and value a broad range of gender expressions and identities.
