Curatorial Statement
Hi, my name is Liz, and I’m an artist. At the moment I’m also a student and an intern. I’m going into my senior year of college as a Studio Art major and a double minor in Women and Gender Studies and Community, Youth, and Education Studies. It’s only been in the past year or so that I’ve realized that these things can all intersect in a wonderful way.
I’ve decided to curate this show, Bodies and Societies because at least for me, it feels impossible to sum up how I feel about my identity, my body, or my place in the world and all of these thoughts only get more complex when I start thinking about the world we live in and the news I see every day.
Art for many, is a way of expressing, distracting, and coping with all of these things, but many artists don’t have the opportunity to display this work and have conversations with other artists, change makers, and community members. What better way to create community than to fill a room with love in the form of art and stories and thoughts and ideas that are beautiful and tragic and honest?
